Abstract: Bangalore City is faced with high congestion problems because of growing population and vehicles also leading to growing number of road accidents and more unproductive man hours during transit time. The situation calls for a rapid mass transportation system that will reduce carbon emissions, reduce travel time and accidents, which led to the formation of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation. The corporation was started in the year 1994 under the name of Bangalore Mass Rapid Transport limited (BMRTL) as a public private partnership that would operate on BOT model. The project could not take off due to various reasons despite fixing up a private partner for implementation of the project. But after seeing the success of Delhi Metro the project was revived again. In the year 2006 the state government of Karnataka approved the implementation of the project. The company is changed into Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation which is a 50:50 Joint Venture between Government of Karnataka (GoK) and Government of India (GoI).
