Abstract: In this Contemporary Concerns Study project, we have looked at the evolution of the netbook industry, the ways in which it is different from the conventional notebook market, the types of players in the market and their current strategies. We have then looked at the segmentation, targeting and positioning of netbooks in India. We have used primary research inputs from retailers, students (potential customers) and a marketing manager at Dell India in the market study, and also to apply the Bass Model and the Technology Adoption Life Cycle (TALC) model to the netbooks market. Using the Bass model, we have arrived at estimated sales figures for netbooks. We have then used the TALC model to recommend a marketing strategy to launch netbooks on to the mainstream market.
