Abstract: The Indian Telecom Industry has traced a blistering pace of growth in the last few years. But, the growth attracted a lot of new players to the market which has led to the intense price war and a bruising competition to acquire or retain market share. Other factors like Mobile Number Portability and the introduction of 3G will affect a wave of changes in the telecom industry. The decreased profitability can support only a few players at a time in the telecom industry, compared to the current number of players that exist. A wave of consolidation seems imminent and smaller telecom players would be forced to shut shop, as they would be unable to keep up with the competitive market forces at play and are likely to be acquired by the bigger operators. In this study, we plan to evaluate the way forward for the telecom sector through scenario planning by developing the various scenarios, the outcome of these scenarios to predict the direction of the telecom industry.
