Abstract: Eco-Femme is a social enterprise founded in 2010 at Auroville, Tamil Nadu and is aimed to provide alternate solution to women for their menstrual cycle and also to educate and empower them. It is a women-led enterprise which produces and sells cloth pads and provides menstrual education covering health and hygiene to women. The idea was conceptualised by Kathy Walkling, an Australian who faced the issue of disposing sanitary napkins, when she moved to India to stay in Auroville. It was in Australia that she came across a washable cloth sanitary napkin and instantly became its loyal customer due to its high comfort and supreme quality. She decided to introduce the product in India and also at the same time empower the women of Auroville. Eco-Femme has partnered with Auroville Village Action group, an NGO whose women are trained tailors who produce Eco-Femme products. The NGO also conducts educational training programme to create awareness related to menstruation.
