Abstract: Having studied the detailed value chain of the Indian e-commerce companies, Flipkart and Amazon India in particular, we found out that these e-commerce companies do not differ much in their value chains. They offer the same services and provide a varied range of products. Amazon India, though a late entrant, has caught up with Flipkart and Snapdeal. Amazon India is backed/funded by its parent in USA, as is evident by the increasing interest of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in the Indian market. Flipkart until lately was backed by investors of the likes of Tiger Global, Qatar Investment Authority.
