Abstract: The Project objective is to translate the current ‘Supermarket Inventory Management’ system to ‘Make to order’ inventory management system for the PE pumps demanded by Client-1 and Client-2 (we are masking the names of these two clients to maintain the confidentiality). PE pumps are the fuel pumps used in multi-cylinder diesel engines of OHV (Off Highway Vehicles) like tractors. In ‘Supermarket Inventory Management’ system, stock of FG is maintained between a predesigned minimum and maximum level of inventory. In ‘Make to order’ system, FG manufacturing will start after the receipt of customer orders and no FG inventory is maintained (Zero FG inventory). Required objective can be achieved by smooth implementation of Pull principles within the current production system of PE pump. Pull strategy involves the synchronization of production processes which will eliminate the requirement of supermarket inventory management system bringing the cost and inventory level down. Streamlining of material and information flow is necessary to reduce the errors in the system and to eliminate the procedures that are non-value adding. This project will include visiting the production plant regularly, observing the process end-to-end and then setting production standards for lean production. The project will focus on developing specific recommendations and eliminating the process bottlenecks.
