Abstract: Imposition of tariff by US and the subsequent retaliation by China as a tit-for-tat response has led to a trade war between the two countries. The rationale behind keeping a high tariff rate for a large exporter like China will help the United States and its people in following ways according to the President of the US[2] 1. It will help bring down the deficit that the US has with China. 2. It will help US manufacturers to compete on price with products coming via Chinese imports.
