Our way of life is based on the principle of materialism. To be happy, one must possess. This way of life emphasizes having before being. Mass consumption is symptomatic of this Western way of life. Yet we keep telling ourselves that money does not bring happiness. Globalization and new technologies have revolutionized our Western model. The market has become uncertain and unstable, which has led to job insecurity or unemployment.... There is an increasing number of cases of depression, fatigue and more generally uneasiness. In this context of economic, social and societal crises, the Western world is going through a real identity struggle. Inversely, the Asian model is fascinating: it mixes art of living, food, body care, management. Their dazzling economic success has pushed Western societies to wonder about the recipe for such efficiency. Sharing, harmony and consensus building at every moment of life are pillars of traditional Asian society. | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/19966 |
