Abstract: Organizational culture affects each and every aspect of everyday business in any organization. It is in fact a major factor in the success of an organization. Studies on organization culture have demonstrated that culture significantly affects performance, morale, job satisfaction, employee motivation, engagement, loyalty, commitment, attrition and hiring. (Fisher, 2000; Rollins & Roberts, 1998; Weiner, 1988; Denison, 1990; Marcoulides & Heck, 1993). One study in particular (Kotter & Heskett, 1992) focussed on the financial implication of organizational culture. The study found that over a period of 11 years, stocks of the companies with healthy cultures increased by 901% as compared to just 74% for comparable companies without a healthy culture in place. A healthy organizational culture can benefit the day to day functioning of an organization in a variety of ways. It helps create a positive, can-do work environment with a focus on teamwork and collaboration. A positive work environment translates to happier employees with high productivity and less attrition rates. People are committed to excellence, ethics and have an attitude of doing things right which result in better quality of work. Lack of commitment to excellence and stressful work environments are common in organizations with poor organizational cultures. Such organizations struggle with subpar quality and performance as well as have a hard time retaining their employees as employees are always on the lookout for better workplaces.
