Abstract: BMTC caters to the daily commuting needs of the population of the city of Bangalore with its fleet of 6400 buses. This metro bus network has a huge number of routes in which different buses are scheduled according to the need or the estimated demand and in multiple trips at different times in a day. However, if the data amassed through the ticketing data is dug for insights, it clearly comes out that the routing and scheduling is not based on a scientific estimate of the demand. Along with this, in parallel, a revenue analysis can be done to get a holistic understanding of how profitable the buses are. Hence the objective of this project was to look at the demand and revenue pattern of various routes of the BMTC buses. Using basic visualization tools such as graphs, the demand and revenue patterns were depicted for BMTC to grasp key insights and make business decisions such as optimizing the scheduling and routing or rerouting the buses to suit the existing demand pattern.
