Abstract: The global electronics industry is estimated to be over $2 trillion. India is one of the largest markets in the world for electronics, projected to reach $400 billion by 2025. However, India’s share in global electronics manufacturing is just above 3%.1 It indeed is worrying that a developing country like India is heavily dependent on imports for one of its critical sectors. This report is intended to understand the Hi-Tech electronics (primarily Computer Hardware and Industrial electronics) manufacturing ecosystem in India, draw a comparative study with the thriving Automotive Industry on how it truly became ‘Make in India’ for the world. Analysis of the impediments which restricted Indian Hi-Tech manufacturing growth, initiatives of the government and plausible practical recommendations to address the demand and domestic supply gap for electronic products when there is a massive thrust for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Digital India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” mission.
