Abstract: The objectives of the CCS project include the development of a questionnaire which can assess the following: 1) Leadership assessment tools and methods 2) Managerial levels at which leadership assessment tools are being used 3) Whether HR/Managers are professionally trained to interpret leadership assessment tools 4) Companies’ investment in leadership development vs. leadership development 5) Whether companies have integrated leadership development and assessment programs 6) What are the variables which predict leadership potential?. Leadership development is one of the key areas of focus in the field of Human Resource Management practice. There is a lot of literature available on the various leadership development practices being adopted by various Indian and foreign companies. Leadership assessment is the process which precedes the stage of leadership development. But, not a lot of research and study has been performed on understanding this crucial practice. Leadership assessment tools vary in their characteristics and purpose. Thus, a study of various leadership assessment tools and practices being used across organizations is an important input in the study of leadership. We are attempting to understand what the various leadership assessment tools and practices are being employed by Indian companies in this research.
