Abstract: At present, Global industrial world is facing the problem of rapid resource depletion with not enough counter measures being taken to ensure future sustenance. Hence, studies into proper and optimum resource utilization are of paramount importance now than ever. This project looks at the potential common factors which can help identify and define responsible purchasing in a manufacturing organization. Responsible purchasing looks at the supply side in a supply chain to ensure that the supply chain is green and sustainable. Relevant literature was reviewed in the area of responsible purchasing and some other case studies of the work done in various industrial sectors and countries were also studied. The scope of the project is to identify common factors which can help an organization look at their procurement and decide if the process is sustainable. The project also throws some light on future research in this area in the way of some exploratory research through a survey of questionnaire targeted at procurement teams in manufacturing organizations of various industrial sectors in India.
