With more than 4 billion of people who are living with less than 2 dollars per day and regarding the imbalances between a same country and between the different parts of the world, it seems that the social sector faces new difficulties and needs to be more innovative and more focused on development and on economic activity to face with them in a globalized and growing world. Indeed, the action of some NGO’s has proved its limits in terms of sustainability, long-term financing, empowerment and social impacts. The risk is to be more focused on the short term activity and not enough on the way to help people to become more independent and self-sufficient. In this context, it is obvious that the social sector needs to find more innovative solutions and to develop new innovative models, able to deal at the same time with the social, the economic and the environment lines and to be more sustainable and independent of grants and subsidies to improve its economic and social efficiency. In the Indian context, despite the economic growth and the growing demand for artisan products, rural traditional artisans remain poor and can’t benefit from an access to this growing market (market which is largely dominated by urban hubs). To meet these unfulfilled needs, two social entrepreneurs joined together to develop a real innovative model able to address this gap between rural unemployment/poverty, traditional artisan crafts and Indian’s growing consumer market. | URI: | https://repository.iimb.ac.in/handle/2074/18729 |
