Abstract: The world is expanding with rising population, developing countries taking extensive steps to develop. As a result there is an ever rising demand for energy sources. Traditional sources of energy have been coal based thermal plants, hydroelectric plants and wind power. Coal based technology accounts for the majority energy requirements of the world. However it is also responsible for green house gas emission leading to the problem of global warming. There is a need to explore alternative sources of energy and since coal will be the major energy source for the next few decades, it’s important we develop technologies to mitigate the impact of green house gas emissions.
