Abstract: This paper starts off with an introduction to the Indian Media and Entertainment industry, its growth characteristics, the players involved, existing revenue streams and the economics of the industry. However, the primary focus of the paper is to bring into limelight the recent trends that are poised at revolutionizing the industry- the radical shift to other modes of consuming media like internet, the effect of laptops and smart phones, the expanding multiplex culture among the youth, etc. These facets are discussed in detail and their impact on the industry is highlighted. The paper also speaks about piracy that is causing huge losses to the industry. Then the paper focuses on how the media firms are innovating to respond to these changing trends in order to stay profitable in the business.
