Abstract: Bangalore is the capital city of the state of Karnataka. With its pleasant weather conditions, strategic location and accommodative population, it has attracted several people throughout its history. As a result, it has evolved to become a potpourri of cultures. With a population of around 9.5 million people, which is constantly on the rise, it would form an interesting study to develop a snapshot of this large city. Through this study, we are working to contribute to a larger project aimed at developing the first ever statistically representative snapshot of Bangalore. The project utilizes a polling booth based sampling frame that was developed as part of what is arguably the biggest data collection in the urban water sector (www.urbanmetabolism.in). The goal for the project is to understand various aspects of Bangalore city, the people living here, their personal histories and how they fit into the evolution of the city as a whole.
