Abstract: M/s. Asea Brown Boveri Ltd. is a globally domesticated organisation dedicated to serve the field of electrical engineering and technology. Out of its 4 segments the major area of operation is the transmission and distribution. It spans the entire voltage range of 415 v to 420 kv. Under this segment, the company manufactures almost all the major equipments and systems. The company also takes up High Voltage Substation and Distribution projects on turnkey basis under the business unit THS-SS through which they substantiate their business operation as well as get an opportunity to exercise applicability of their own manufactured equipment and in turn improve upon the product. As in case of any other project business, BU : THS-SS also needs to buy equipments and materials in the range of 40 to 70% of the total project, the rest being their own products. Obviously, apart from the skills in the field of design and engineering, project management, finance & control, erection & commissioning where the BU has well established systems, supply Management, too, is an important and a crucial limb where the researcher found an effective method to assess quality and reliability of vendors. This is very essential since these factors have direct bearing on the performance of project execution and also on the performance of the project itself in long run. The company, too, values the customer satisfaction as the highest priority.
