Abstract: ITW.SIGNODE (India ) LTD. has an existing product ANGLEBOARD This product, inspite of doing well in the market, has poor moisture resistance and is thus not suitable for all weather applications .The decision to launch . EDGEBOARD was to eliminate this problem . Besides, since it would contain a high percentage of plastic inits core, it would add extra toughness to the packaging . The survey was an exercise to find raw material sources for this improved product . The main objectives of the exploratory survey conducted were as follows: a)Identify scrap which has zero or very low resale value; b) Large enough sources , since the company’s requirements are very high ; c)To source it preferably from the organised sector, so the entire process can be reliable and smmoth . d) Sources must be located very close to Silvassa to make freight charges minimum. After the initial search through the secondary | data sources ,it was possible to identify scrap generated in three industries (referred to as the primary market) which could satisfy our basic raw material- Tequirement ie. LDPE .They are as follows: a) polycoat paper and tetrapack manufacturers and users ; b) low voltage cable manufacturers ; c) makers of I.V. fluid containers and packs . Besides there are huge scrap markets (referred to as the secondary market) for polyethylenes in metros like Bombay.
