Investment analysis: Cigarettes/Tobacco industry; SBI Funds Management Ltd.

Abstract

The cigarettes and tobacco industry has been existing in India for the past two hundred years. Traditionally in India the consumption of tobacco has taken the form of Hook ah, Bidis, cheroots and chewing tobacco. It was only in the second half of this century that the production and consumption of cigarettes started in a big way in India. The tobacco production and consumption, been continuously increasing over the years and today India is the third largest producer of tobacco in the world. The basic aim of this study was to carry out the investment analysis of the major players in this industry. In this regard the four main companies, namely ITC Ltd . , VST Industries, Godfrey Phillips Ltd. , and GTC Ltd.
