Abstract: The internship lasted 9 weeks, initially in Singapore and then. in Hong Kong. Initially, we spent 3 days in Singapore for training and learning sessions about Barclays Capital, its policies and practices as well as technical training on derivatives. This also included training sessions using Bloomberg and Reuters. There was also a networking session meant to meet people in the company. We then moved to Hong Kong to our respective desks. We were set 5 objectives by our managers, including a project. We were also required to meet five directors and managing directors of the firm outside our own business areas to learn more about the firm and the different roles played by different people. On the desk, we were required to report in the morning and we were set some day to day tasks. Some assignments were given to us as client requests came in. This often involved background research or collating information required by different teams. A part of my work was also to go through the internal research produced by Barclays Capital and to learn from it. We were also required to go to any relevant presentations that might be happening, as well as create content for mailers which went out to the extended team. I also attended a conference which was relevant to my desk. There were also trivia quizzes designed to test us and to sharpen our intuition about option pricing. I was also required to speak to colleagues in Singapore to get information as well as liaise with the Research department to· get relevant information.
