Abstract: Internship provided an excellent opportunity to apply the concepts learnt at the institute in the real business environment. It gave insights about the company's strategy, criteria for its expansion, some of the operations and policies in place. For the purpose of the project Copper and Aluminium industries were chosen. These businesses fall under Hindalco, 6 billion dollar metals arm of ABG. In the first phase of the project, a macroeconomic study of China was conducted. This involved study of the current economic policies, world economy, steps taken by China post financial crisis, and possible economic scenarios emerging in China. In the second phase, value chain analysis of both Copper and Aluminium industries in China was conducted to evaluate options for further study. In the final phase, the attractive and the most threatening aspects of the value chain were analyzed. This included international trade analysis for metals and downstream products, competitive landscaping (Chinese and world major players). In each stage, data was gathered" from variety of sources notably Bloomberg, Securities.com, CRU, Brookhunt publications. Based on the analysis in the combined phases, recommendations and possible actions were drafted and presented to the senior management.
