Just 100 mm of rains over three days in July turned the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) into a mean, bulldozing machine reclaiming lost public land from encroachers. One can argue that at least the BBMP is acting now, but is this really how we want our governance to be? Do we really need a fatal fire accident before we go around razing high rises that violate fire code? Do we really need our school children to be harmed before we introduce basic safety codes in schools?
