Abstract: It has been almost 20 years since economicliberalisation started in India, yet industrialinnovation is not one of our strong points.India ranks 58 out of the 82 countries onEconomist Intelligence Units (EIU)Innovation Index (a patent-based index)and 21 out of the 33 countries on Georgia TechsTechnological Standing Index (based on high-techexports). To make matters worse, by 2012 it isexpected to move up a single notch in the EIUchart, while neighbour China is expected to topthe Georgia Tech Index chart!.
