Abstract: Business Analytics or Business Intelligence is increasingly being seen as the key differentiator that provides a competitive edge to companies across industries. While India has long been known to be the destination for IT services and more recently Business Process Outsourcing, are there significant opportunities in the Business Analytics space as well? If opportunities are present, then where, and in what form do they exist? Are there specific areas where India offers a unique advantage? What are the impediments to the growth of this industry in India? The IIMB Management Review (IMR) Round Table on Business Analytics in India – Opportunities and Challenges brings together a panel of experts to explore and understand this emerging field. The panel discussion includes issues such as the infrastructure and manpower needs for India to be a major player, user needs in Business Analytics, the technological challenges associated with integrating data from multiple sources in Business Analytics, collaboration between industry and academia, the use of new analytical models and studies of the successful application of Business Analytics especially in banking and in supply chain management, and what India must do to leverage its special strengths and deliver in this space.
