Abstract: Significant efforts are being made to enhance the quality of products and services in all sectors of economy across the world. Organizations, which fail to provide quality goods and/ or services, are likely to fail. The cost of poor quality is estimated to be about 30 percent to 40 percent if the organization is operating at what is called 2 Sigma level. Classification tree method is one of the effective techniques for identifying the source of poor quality. This paper applies classification tree method to identify the major sources of poor quality in the manufacture of rail wheels at the Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) at Bangalore, India.
