Abstract: Bharat Earth Movers Limited is a premier ISO9000 company in India and the second largest manufacturer of earthmoving equipment's in Asia. BEML is a public sector under taking under the ministry of defence .A three decade old multi locational, multi product company, BEML has vital applications in diverse sectors of economy such as coal mining, construction, road building, defence and railways. It has expanded its product range to cover high quality hydraulics, heavy-duty diesel engines, welding robots and undertaking heavy fabrication jobs. BEML has its manufacturing units located at KGF, BANGALORE AND MYSORE. BEML engine division is located at Mysore and is manufacturing Diesel Engines, required for all its Earth Moving equipment's for captive use. The engine capacities range from 110HP to 600HP.THE PROBLEM: It is observed from the past experience that machine shop is not able to meet the assembly requirements and hence the engine dispatches are getting delayed. The production is expected to increase in the coming years due to the indiginisation achieved during 97-98, hence ANALYSIS OF THROUGHPUT: assumes importance. In view of these reasons this project work has been proposed to analyze the throughput for further actions to improve the productivity and overall performance. This study has been carried out at machine shop of engine division machine shop this is manufacturing critical engine components like camshafts, connecting rods, cylinder blocks ,Flywheel housings and cylinder heads. The study has been carried out on two lines i.e. CONNECTING ROD LINE and FLYWHEEL HOUSING LINE of engine division machine shop. The components manufactured here are required for engines at various stages during the assembly.
