Abstract: Mahindra and Mahindra's Igatpuri plant is a captive Engine manufacturing plant started in 1983 in technical collaboration with M/S Automobile Peugeot of France.Till 1994,plant was following traditional batch production system.Agreement of 1995 with union saw plant switching over to New Manufacturing practices which included Single piece flow,Self inspection,Self-handling and Cross functional group working.The objective of this project was to: A) Measure the impact of change in Manufacturing practices in terms of selected performance indicators. The selected indicators were (l)COST OF QUALITY , (2) ENGINEERING CHANGE TIME ,(3) INSPECTION LEAD TIME , (4) FIRST PASS YEILD ,(6) INVENTORY ,(7) SCHEDULE ADHERENCE.The said indicators were selected based on feedback from internal audits and ISO audits and comments made therein ,about monitoring of these indicators.This phase of study was to highlight the 'AREAS OF CONCERNS". B) Based on the input from above study in the form of "Areas of concerns" review and modify existing performance measurement system to take care of weak areas.
