Abstract: IT-BPO industry has played a key role in putting India on the world map. The industry has attracted more than 10 per cent of total FDI flowing in India. Investment of over USD 8 billion by VC/PE organisations in this industry, in700+ deals. The industry has also lead in the development of Indian organisations as global multinationals with over 400 deliver centres(outside India), the industry has presence in 52 countries, and 200 countries.1Technology MNCs in India (captives) is an important component of this success story. This story can be dissected in various ways to understand the underpinning dynamics. Entry of these MNCs in India is impacted by macroeconomic conditions in originating as well as destination countries. MNCs in originating from different sub continents demonstrate different patterns in their entry and growth in India. Patterns also emerge from the nature of business of these MNCs. Objective of this comprehensive project is to understand more about technology MNCs in India. Every company that is registered with Nasscom and has head quarter outside of India is the basis of this study. Using date of entry in India of technology MNCs, and nature of business we have built various hypotheses in the following report. To categorise companies as per their nature of business, we have created a set of definition of various categories. As most of these MNCs are not listed in India, it was challenging to get secondary data. We have explored various data sources like Nasscom, Ministry of Corporate Affairs GOI and newspaper clippings. Each finding ends with proposition that sets direction for future investigation.
