Abstract: The usage of correct complementary assets in case of any generic general purpose technology increases the value of that technology tremendously. IT as a general purpose technology has already been established in the business world however, there are certain issues related to the implementation of this technology which has questioned the overall efficacy of this wonderful technology. Search of a suitable complementary asset can be addressed by the usage of decision making science in conjunction with IT to provide solutions to extremely complex business problems. Identification and usage of such complementary assets results in quick identification of the source of competitive advantage for the organizations and the techniques for furthering the competitive advantage on an ongoing basis. Implementation of such well thought out projects which are aligned with the overall organization s strategy and provide functionality which is needed by the business always results in higher financial and competitive performance for organizations. Business leaders need to start thinking about creating the organization structures, processes and methodologies which will allow them to merge the standalone analytics and IT functions into a single function. The new structure and process will ensure better alignment between business and IT and implement strategies which will further organization s competitive advantage.
