dc.description.abstractFarmer Producer Organization: Farmer Producer Organizations are groups of farmers who together produce agricultural products. The Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India has asked Small Farmers’ Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) to help the state governments to form these Farmer Producer Organizations (FPO). Farmers are grouped into smaller groups of 15-20 farmers each, called Farmers Interest Group (FIG). 40-50 FIGs together form an FPO. FPO works as an aggregator for the farmers. It helps them to obtain raw materials and also sell the final agricultural output. FPO try to work on the theory of economies of scale and provides bargaining power to farmers. Farmers as a group can demand better prices and make better business decisions. FPO improves technology access to farmers, increases productivity of farms, enables easy access to better raw material, and increases incomes of the farmers. Thus, providing rural population access to sustainable agriculture livelihood. The eventual goal for an FPO is to evolve into a commercial entity to operate economically viable business activities. Jeeva Jala Farmers Producer Company Limited: Jeevan Jala Farmers Producer Company Ltd. is a FPO comprising of farmers of Nonavinakere hobli, Tiptur taluk, Tumkur district, Karnataka state, India. Jeeva Jala covers 25 villages and 8 panchayats. It consists of 15 FIGs and 300 farmers, out of which 180 are small farmers, 80 are marginal and 40 are big farmers. This FPO has been setup with the vision of becoming a renowned agriculture producer organization and establishing systems which can make the company sustainable and provide services to its member farmers. The overall objective of the FPC is to enhance the income of farmers and create efficient farming systems for sustainable agriculture in Nonavinakere. Nonavinakere Demographics: Nonavinakere hobli consists of 61 villages, 7 panchayats and 14 revenue circles having a population of around 7000. Around 55% of Nonavinakere’s population is male while 45% is female. 86% of households in Nonavinakere, is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood throughout the year. Coconut is the primary crop for majority of the farmers while Finger Millets is the secondary crop. This information is shown in below pie charts.
