Huge amount of data has been accumulated since decades and the accumulation rate is increasing at faster pace. With huge data in place, maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of this data are biggest concerns of government organizations today. Traditional way of data collection, use, data storage within their own department has changed. There is a need to have seamless data integration between different government departments and systems to address the issue of privacy and confidentiality in a holistic way. Another way to address issues of security, information privacy and compliance is to have Data Governance. This report has analysed Data Governance framework for Smart City and focussed on Smart Transportation System as there is potential value of $720-920 billion in open data for transportation1. It then outlines challenges that transportation System face, and proposes solutions.
