dc.description.abstractThis paper presents an overview of the ecosystem of women entrepreneurship in India and analyses the major challenges faced by working women who start up on their own. It examines the inherent biases prevalent against performance of working women, compares the success of women as business managers in developed and developing nation and the reasons behind it followed by issues specific to the Indian geography. The policies of Indian Government pertaining to women entrepreneurship have been analyzed in detail. Insights have been drawn from few success stories. In-depth interviews and discussions were conducted with multiple stakeholders to understand the motivations and major challenges faced by working women in India. The study attempts to understand the challenges of women entrepreneurs at multiple levels – psychological, social, financial, operational in order to recommend a strategy to improve female participation in the workforce.
