The Indian investment banking (IB) industry has been one that has generated a lot of interest and a lot of debate on when exactly it will take off, especially in MBA circles. However, research done on the Indian IB industry is quiet limited and it is worth exploring how the sector has been and how the sector will transform in recent times. Investment banking, in advanced countries like the USA and UK is an extremely lucrative profession. According to a recent survey conducted by Universum, five of the top ten most attractive companies to work for are investment banks or the investment banking division of multidisciplinary finance and accounting firms.i The reasons behind this is that investment banking is an extremely dynamic sector and requires a lot of innovation which makes the work challenging. It is with this theme that we intend to explore the transformation in investment banking business in India in current global economic climate.
