The paper briefly discusses the evolution of the power sector from Independence till present, including all major legislations till date. The paper analyses the commitment of the government and the various utility companies towards the goal of bridging the ever-growing power supply gap of the country. The paper then proposes three thrust areas for future investment: Smart-Grids, Energy Efficiency Initiatives and Differential Pricing with a brief description of potential challenges in their implementation.
