dc.description.abstract | Social media dates back to the days when internet evolved. However, Social media as we know today has its origins to the rise of Myspace, Orkut and Facebook in early 2000s. It has revolutionised the way people connect. Social media became a medium for people to express their opinions freely and easily to a large audience. However, overwhelming adoption of Social media been found to cause multiple behavioural, psychological, and health issues. Addiction became a major issue with people constantly checking Social media to check the likes for the content they posted. More likes made people feel validated while lesser number of likes was found to cause depression among certain set of users. This led to major social media giants like Facebook and Instagram to stop showing likes or showing them partially in certain geographies. | |
