Education is often related to economic development and human development. India ranks 135 in the education index ranking. As of 2011, despite 93% enrolment into primary schools, half of the rural children of age 10 could not read at a basic level and over 60% could not do division based problems. 50% of the students dropped out of school by age 14. This situation is widely prevalent in government schools which accounts for 80% of all recognized schools at elementary level. Statistics tells us that over 73% of primary government school teachers send their children to private schools. This proves that there is a basic flaw in the quality of education provided by the public system and mere increase in public spending might not help in achieving the goal of educating the country.
