The objective of the project was to understand the functioning of the automobile industry and to analyse why companies which were once market leaders in the sector failed. Hindustan Motors (HM), one of the first companies to enter the Indian automobile industry and once a market leader through their Ambassador car, failed to sustain themselves over a period of time. The aim is to understand the root causes behind this failure and to understand how the company could have sustained itself and performed better.
