The Japanese are well-renowned internationally for their management principles. The paper begins with an overview of common Japanese manufacturing management techniques and practices. It then looks at supply chain management with a focus on the implementation of Just-In-Time in India, along with the challenges faced. Next, we look at the approach followed by Japanese companies in the transfer of Japanese Human Resource Management systems to their subsidiaries and joint ventures in India. In the end, we use both primary and secondary data to examine the extent to which Japanese management principles are adopted in Japanese affiliates like Maruti Suzuki, Mitsubishi Elevator India and Hero Honda in India.
