Quantitative study on the identification of beneficiaries for National Food Security Act - India

Abstract

There are estimates that show that India will be the 2nd biggest economy by the year 2050.1Itfeatures in the top 10 countries even if just the nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) isconsidered. Despite such a rapid pace of growth, India is still grappling with the concerns ofhigh poverty levels and high rate of malnutrition. According to a report by International FoodPolicy Research Institute, India's hunger levels are comparable to that of some underdeveloped African countries.2The hunger indices of other South-Asian countries like Pakistan,China, Sri Lanka, etc. were better than India's. Also, India is home to 40 percent of the world'smalnourished children and 35 percent of the developing world's low-birth-weight infants.
