dc.description.abstractThe discovery of large reserves of Bauxite in the East Coast, during late 70’s led government of India to consider establishing an integrated Aluminium complex in the state of Orissa. In Jan '8@, the visit of the President of France and India saw the signing of a MOU for initiating discussion on technical collaborations with Aluminium Pechiney of France and development of comprehensive financial package for an integrated bauxite-alumina-power-aluminium project. In Nov. 1988, GOI sanctioned the establishment of the Orissa Aluminium complex which was christened and registered as “National Aluminium Company Limited, NALCO on 7th dan. 19781, which was dedicated to the Nation on 28th June 1989. Nalco is credited with on-line project completion, best technology base, self reliance and export thrust, capable and committed work force, regional development and environment care, and accent on future growth.
