Abstract: The basic idea of summer internship with Planning Commission’s HRD Division was to gain a first-hand insight into the spectrum of issues and problems which constrain the performance of higher education sector in India. The primary aim was also to understand the trends and future direction of policy-making which regulates the higher education domain as such. As the internship was more about experiencing the nitty-gritties of the higher education, the work covered many broad areas related to higher education. The work can be however classified into following five broad categories: - The Historical Perspective, - Higher Education in India – The Future, - The Role of Corporate Sector in Higher Education, - Academic Salaries – The Global Perspective, - Data Availability The report will go into each of the above mentioned domain and try to summarize the key learnings about the domain.
