The Institute for Manpower Planning and Career Training (IMPACT for short) was founded in the year 1980. In its 36 years of history the group has seen tremendous changes in the environment as it grew from a Polytechnic to the present suite of colleges. It began in the 80s as relatively simple organization serving in a ready, seller s market. But much has changed in the last 3 decades. India is more capitalistic and entrepreneurially driven today, competitors and customers have grown smarter and the socio-?economic and political values of the country have changed in fundamental ways. The institution itself has grown in complexity with various new markets and programs. Today the Institution is facing the challenge of well entrenched tier 1 colleges that take the giant share of the meritorious students on the one hand and Private Universities that offer unlimited program choices and seats on the other. Specifically, we will look at the three education industries in which the following institutions of the IMPACT group can be identified with -? ? IMPACT College of Engineering that offers the Bachelor of Engineering under the VTU: 4 year degree program ? IMPACT Polytechnic that offers the 3 year Diploma in Engineering under the aegis of Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE), Govt. of Karnataka: 3 year diploma program ? IMPACT School of Architecture that offers the 5 year bachelor of Architecture under the VTU : 5 year architecture program The dynamics of these three institutions are very different in terms of the regulatory authorities, the target customer segments and the general environment. This report details the industry analysis of the technical education Industry in India. It includes an external analysis of education indysry using relevant strategic tools such as Porter s Five forces model, SWOT and PESTL. From this analysis using these tools comment on the implications 2 for the Impact s Institutions of Engineering, Architecture and Polytechnic education. Report also includes internal analysis and included resource based view (RBV) analysis for Impact group.
