dc.description.abstractInformation technology is playing an increasingly important role. Areas hitherto outside the purview of computerization have been automated making the entire process better and efficient. E-Governance happens to be such a field, which has caught on very fast in different states. It is an initiative undertaken by the Government to provide certain services to the general public using the power of IT. There are ranges of issues that senior government officials need to take decisions on, in such scenarios. Some of the implementation decisions include deciding on the scope of the project, which in this case would be nature of services that can be provided, the channel through which these services can be delivered, involving private sector partners to share development and operating costs, charging fees to citizens etc. The business model to be adopted is a major decision too as this has several implications both for the departments concerned and for citizens, the prime beneficiaries, and also possibly impacts the success of such major initiatives. A detailed analysis along these lines helps us to gain insights from successful implementation of such projects, which can be replicated in future similar projects. This is particularly important given that there are few “real life” examples of successful e-governance projects.en_US
