Abstract: The purpose of the study was to understand the structure of the global IT services market, the competitive forces shaping the market, to identify the trends and suggest a road map for leading Indian IT services companies to become globally competitive. The report starts with a brief note which defines the scope of, what is meant by "IT services" and which also looks into the evolution of the Industry. The report then gives a snapshot of the Global IT Market followed by the salient features of the Indian Software Industry. As we have selected a leading Indian Player, we would be more interested in customer and player dynamics in the global landscape than within the nation. The section on Indian Software Industry is meant to delineate the environment in which the chosen company - Tata Consultancy Services - operates. The history and current position of TCS is studied in detail. An equal amount of effort and time was spend on studying each of the top 10 global players. Of these the history and strategies of the top 5 - IBM GS, EDS, CSC, Accenture and Cap Gemini E & Y has been included in the report. Next the options for Organic and Inorganic growth of the selected Indian Company is analyzed. The report closes with recommendations for the company to evolve into a global player.
