dc.description.abstract | This report aims to capture the practical experience and knowledge gained as part of the Value Engineering team for a IO-week summer internship undergone at SAP Labs, Gurgaon. The work mainly involved pre-sales analysis for prospective clients. It consisted of "outside-in" analysis for a company using financial statements filed with the SEC and other publicly available information. The company has well defined frameworks and processes for carrying out a thorough check on the prospective clients' performance in various areas including, Supply Chain Management, Network Asset Management, Customer Relation Management etc. Through a combination of self or trend analysis and peer analysis, it becomes possible to point out with reasonable exactness, the inefficiency points in the company's operations. Some amount of industry analysis was also required to come up with meaningful company analysis and a suitable proposition for the target company. A major part of the summer internship was spent in a "success-replication" campaign. This is aimed at churning out quick analysis for companies falling within a narrow class of product type and sales/operational model. As part of this campaign, the idea was to identify areas and opportunities in similar type of companies, operating in similar environments and selling similar products, i.e. High tech Original Equipment Manufacturers. Once the common opportunity areas are identified, subsequent analysis can be done using a common template and thus would require less time and effort as is spent on a regular full outside-in analysis. The following sections discuss the same process followed at the company step by step. Every effort has been made to elucidate and explain the reason behind carrying out a particular step and what makes the analysis credible and relevant. A template has been attached to further clarify what a success replication campaign is aimed at achieving. This template is proprietary SAP material and should no be used for commercial purposes and may only be considered as an educational resource. | |
