Abstract: The objective of the project is to survey the Indian insurance industry and figure out the role and relevance of IT in the companies. The survey will be focused at collecting the following data The technologies prevalent in the Insurance industry The practices prevalent in the IT department of Insurance industry The power and influence of IT in the company The adequacy of IT for business functions in the industry The technological imperatives for the company Contribution of joint venture partner to IT The survey has been conducted only with people at CxO or one level below CxO. The interview was conducted at this level in the organization to make sure that interviewee has a strategic direction of the organizational IT policy. The interview was also validated with interview of senior folks in the functional domain to map the business imperatives with technological imperatives The data so collected will be analyzed in the context of literature surveyed to draw conclusions on the following aspects Technological imperatives for next 3 years Key areas of outsourcing and impact on costs The impact of organizational maturity on Information technology Impact of Power of IT within organization on the IT strategy Impact of technology provided by foreign JV partner Impact of the top management view of IT within the organization on technology imperatives Factors impacting IT in Indian Insurance industry.
