Indian companies are seen as "coming of age" with their shift from being India centric to building presence in other low cost locations through acquisitions and organic growth. The next phase of evolution is from outsourcing to global sourcing as far as processes, quality frameworks and practices are concerned. The aim of this study was to understand, what exactly "Going Global" means for Indian IT companies. The analysis revealed that going global for Indian IT companies means a heightened focus on spreading operations across the globe as opposed to purely focusing on increasing sales from foreign countries. This also mandates an increased focus on developing integrating mechanisms across these dispersed operations in order to synchronize delivery of services and competitive moves across different geographies. The specific areas which need attention in order to achieve this have also been outlined. Human resource strategy, investment in joint ventures, position in the value chain, sources of finance and R and D expenditure have emerged as key focus areas for the Indian IT companies to go global. Speed of alliances, range of services provided and academic collaborations have emerged as areas of concern on the path of globalization for the Indian IT companies.
