Abstract: Strategy and growth of any organization is in general, analysed in terms of generic strategic recommendations backed by theoretical models that have been developed overanalyses of many organizations. In this context, with the growing IT industry in India, with a plethora of small and medium players in various domains, a more practical approach to strategy is a strong requirement that these organizations feel. In an endeavor to explore the same, this study takes the approach of starting with a case of an actual IT SME in need for strategic direction, in the IT industry, and building upon this to outline generic strategic guidelines that would apply to a larger section of small and medium players in the IT industry. While the report is not aimed at organization specific problems or their corresponding recommendations, it focuses on extracting generalized information from the case, that would apply to a broad spectrum of industry players and also formulates approaches for strategy that are more generic in nature than specific to the case in question.
