Abstract: Transitions of product development are the mainstay of Indian arms of many multinational technology companies. This research studies a few such transitions and identifies factors that are important for the process of transition. The importance of product aspects, organizational aspects and knowledge transfer are analyzed and ways to improve the efficacy of transition are identified. This paper identifies various parameters that play crucial role in selection of product to be transitioned and studies the importance of organizational maturity to execute transition and role of competency development in transitions. The knowledge transfer is analyzed with respect to the knowledge pattern of the existing team and methods to improve interaction and knowledge transfer are suggested. The paper presents a set of guidelines to improve the process of transition and a template for transition plan is suggested.
